For over 120 years, we at P&C* have placed great importance on quality and fair working conditions. This is why we assume ecological and social responsibility along the entire supply chain. We have defined binding minimum standards for all products sold by us and established a seal standard that recognises sustainability certificates from independent third parties.

What we are committed to:

  • By 2030, 40 % of our entire product range will have a sustainability seal recognised by us from an independent third party (30 % by 2027). By 2030, 75 % of our exclusive brands will carry a sustainability seal.

With our exclusive brands**, we can ensure high standards ourselves. This is why our subsidiary, International Brands Company (IB Company GmbH & Co. KG), which is responsible for our exclusive brands, has been certified for the Organic Content Standard, Recycled Claim Standard and Responsible Wool Standard textile standards, among others.

In the case of external brands, we work closely with our partners and set out clear requirements for responsible production and certified materials in our guidelines for suppliers, known as our supplier manuals.

In our seal standard, we specify which sustainability seals from independent third parties we recognise. Our focus is on responsible materials that have been extracted and produced in a way that conserves resources, on production methods with higher environmental and social standards and on the use of recycled fibres. A product must consist of at least 30 % materials that fulfil these standards. We differentiate between licensed materials, such as Tencel and Lenzing, and certified materials. We re-evaluate the seal standard annually for quality, relevance and traceability.

With our exclusive brand Jake*s Studio, we have been offering collections consisting exclusively of products with sustainability seals from independent third parties since 2023.

Our animal welfare policy

In addition to people and the environment, the protection of animal welfare is also important to us. We have not used real fur in our product ranges for several years now. In 2023, we joined the Fur Free Retailer Programme of the Fur Free Alliance and publicly speak out against the use and sale of real fur. We have also signed a declaration of intent to phase out the use of mulesing wool and will exclude it from the supply chain of our exclusive brands by 2030 at the latest. In addition, we have developed an animal welfare policy together with experienced experts from the animal welfare organisation VIER PFOTEN. This guideline describes our standards and principles for the humane treatment of all animals along our supply chains.

Circular economy

The conscious use of raw materials is essential in order to minimise resource waste in all areas – from production to packaging. Fashion should not only be bought, but also cared for, worn, repaired and recycled at the end of its life cycle to preserve its value.

What we are committed to:

  • By 2028, we will have built up expertise in design, product and procurement teams on how to apply principles for reducing waste, reusing and recycling clothing.

For our exclusive brands, we rely on durable, high-quality materials and increase the proportion of certified fibres. To promote the circular economy, we work with partners on take-back systems for used textiles and support projects on new solutions for textile recycling.

Wherever possible, we minimise packaging during transport and production. We transport our exclusive brand products with three to six pieces in so-called master polybags to avoid individual packaging. Where packaging is required, we rely on environmentally friendly alternatives. The paper used for our FSC-certified bags, cardboard boxes and mailing bags is made from wood from responsibly managed forests, while the handles on the shipping boxes are made from bio-plastic based on renewable plants.

Our services for long-lasting fashion

We want to inspire our customers with long-lasting products and support them in consciously consuming, caring for and using fashion for a long time. Using our free INSIDER programme, customers can book a 60-minute personal shopping consultation at any of our locations.

We are also there for our customers after their purchase. In the online shop you will find detailed care instructions and repair tips for various materials. We adjust clothing to fit in around 51 in-house alteration studios – even if it was not purchased from us. Every year, our tailors carry out several hundred thousand modifications and repairs. It is important to us to offer this service at attractive prices to make it accessible to everyone. Since 2025, we have been offering repair and alteration services nationwide in cooperation with the online studio "Die Änderei", even in regions where we do not have local studios. Customers throughout Germany can book alterations online, send in their garments by insured mail and thus extend the life of their clothes.

Transparency in the supply chain

We want to know exactly where and how the fashion we sell is produced. This is the basis for implementing higher standards and reducing environmental impact. To this end, we are strengthening our partnerships and introducing a transparent sustainability assessment system. We use data to make informed decisions and motivate our suppliers to make continuous improvements.

What we are committed to:

  • By 2030, we will create transparency regarding the factories that supply our direct suppliers with materials for the final production of our exclusive brand products.
  • By 2028, we will evaluate the production facilities of our exclusive brands based on ecological and social criteria.

Our subsidiary IBC manages the design, product development and procurement for our exclusive brands** – this enables us to select more resource-efficient materials and check social and ecological standards in the value chain.

We currently have complete transparency regarding our direct suppliers and continuously audit compliance with our social standards at our production sites. We also want to extend this transparency and traceability of products deeper into our supply chain.
