Sustainability

at Peek & Cloppenburg*

As one of the largest multi-brand fashion retailers in Europe, we stand for more than just high-quality products. We take responsibility for the environmental and social impact along our entire supply chain – from the materials and resources we use to the people who manufacture and sell our products.

By making effective changes in our own business, we want to create a positive future for our employees, our customers, our industry and our environment. We have valuable levers at our disposal to help us achieve this: our high quality standards, our expert consulting services and our extensive reach in the industry and among consumers. Sustainable corporate governance and a people-centred culture are crucial to achieving our vision.

In recent years, we have been able to realise key milestones in our sustainability strategy, such as calculating our carbon footprint and expanding our range of certified fashion.

We have also analysed how our business affects climate change, the use of materials and social aspects – and how these factors impact on our company. Building on this, we have further developed our strategy in the three strategic fields of action People & Company, Product & Customer and Planet & Climate.

Our current sustainability targets apply until 2030 and beyond. They cover our entire supply chain and set the course for long-term impact. We report on our progress in our annual sustainability report.

People & Company

P&C* is a place of diversity, team spirit, and creativity. As an internationally operating family business with around 16,000 employees from approximately 130 nations, it is above all the people who define us. We create an inspiring work environment with plenty of space for personal development and collaboration.

Our DE&I strategy – short for Diversity, Equity & Inclusion – embeds diversity, equal opportunity, and inclusion into our corporate culture. All employees should feel fully supported and empowered to reach their full potential.

However, our responsibility does not stop at the boundaries of our company. Throughout our entire supply chain, fairness, social responsibility, and integrity are key priorities. We carefully select our suppliers, maintain long-term business relationships, and communicate our binding policies clearly.

Product & Customer

For us, fashion is more than just clothing – it reflects our values, our style and our attitude. That is why we are passionately committed to ensuring that products not only look good, but are also produced under fair and safe working conditions while conserving resources, and that they bring pleasure for a long time.

Together with our brand partners, suppliers and sustainability experts, we create awareness for sustainable, high-quality fashion and a conscious lifestyle. Because real change can only be achieved by working together.

Our product range is therefore subject to clear minimum requirements and standards for materials, supply chains and production conditions, such as regulations on compliance with human rights or permissible limits for chemical substances. We offer our customers a growing range of certified products. Supply chain transparency is an important prerequisite for this, which is why we are increasingly working on it. We also support our customers with advice and services to help them keep their favourite pieces for longer.

Planet & Climate

The fashion industry is responsible for around 10 % of global CO₂ emissions (1). As part of this industry, we are aware of the impact of our activities on the environment.

Over 80 % of our footprint is caused by the products we sell. Less than 5 % is attributable to our stores, offices and logistics. We are working to avoid or reduce emissions in order to minimise negative effects on the environment.

The most important steps include switching to lower-emission materials, renewable energies and increased energy efficiency in our partners' production facilities and in our own buildings. This includes the use of green electricity and the expansion of LED lighting, photovoltaic systems and heating systems without fossil fuels.

We are also focussing on gaining more transparency regarding our impact on water resources, biodiversity and environmental pollution. This enables us to take targeted measures to protect natural resources.

At our Conscious Fashion Store at Potsdamer Platz in Berlin, mindful consumption and future-ready fashion become a tangible experience for our customers and partners. With the concept store, which opened in 2023, we’ve created a space where we collaborate with our customers, partners, and brands to develop innovative concepts and test new approaches to fashion.

Through interactive events and workshops – such as the weekly sewing café or Conscious Styling events – we invite our customers to actively participate. It’s a place where we exchange knowledge and inspire enthusiasm for responsible fashion.
